Digital Watches

A digital watch is the opposite of an analogue (analog) watch, in that a digital watch uses electronic means, such as liquid crystal and LED, by which to indicate time. An analogue watch, by contrast, shows time with hands. So, whilst analogue watches are considered traditional and denote legacy, digital watches clearly denote that which is modern, even futuristic. The first digital watch may have been launched in 1970, but they are watches that continue to look decidedly contemporary, somehow of the future. So why are digital watches so popular? A digital watch can serve a practical, highly functional purpose - for example, used as a stopwatch by an athlete with instantly visible timing or clearly show depth in metres for a deep sea diver. Ultimately, digital numbers or figures on a dial can be simply irresistible.
